Process and Legal
If the Summons and Complaint require you to attend an answer hearing, you may still need to file an Answer with the Court. In some jurisdictions, filing an Answer may satisfy the response requirement in place of attending the hearing. Because requirements vary by jurisdiction, it is important to carefully review your court documents and the filing instructions provided with your Answer.
If you miss the deadline to respond, you may be at risk of having a default judgment entered against you. Requirements and available options vary by jurisdiction, so it is important to take action as soon as possible. If your deadline has already passed, you should not delay in addressing the matter.
If the Court rejects your filing, it will typically provide a reason for the rejection. If the issue is minor, you may be able to correct the document and resubmit it. If you need additional assistance understanding or addressing the issue, our customer service team will be able to assist.
The goal is to help you properly respond to the lawsuit and provide an opportunity to resolve the matter before it progresses further through the court process. Law.DIY’s service is focused on preparing your Answer and providing related filing and service information. Unless otherwise stated, any additional stages of litigation remain the client’s responsibility.
Law.DIY provides a customized Answer based on the information you provide about your case. You will also receive important information about filing your Answer with the appropriate Court and serving a copy on the Plaintiff’s attorney.
If your response deadline is approaching, your matter may require expedited review. Whether Law.DIY can assist will depend on the amount of time remaining, the jurisdiction, and the circumstances of the case.
Urgent and last-minute matters are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Our ability to assist may depend on the jurisdiction, the applicable deadline, and the amount of time available to prepare and review the Answer.
Yes. We generally recommend allowing at least five business days before your Answer deadline for preparation and review. Matters submitted with less time may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Filing instructions will be provided along with the answer that will direct the client to the proper Court in which to file.

You will receive notification along with copies of the client’s answer and filing instructions once we complete the service. However, whether the customer then files the answer with the court is not something we track and would have to be confirmed with the customer.
You will receive notice once we finalize the answer and you will receive a copy of the answer when we email the answer to the client.
The DSP dashboard shows you everything you need to know: linked clients, total matters, active matters, documents, invoices, reports, as well as the status of all active matters.
